Submotion Orchestra + Planas Live

Exeter: Timepiece,

Sun 18th March 2012, 12:00am

The Deep End presents a special performace from Submotion Orchestra as part of Exeters Vibraphonic Festival.

SUBMOTION ORCHESTRA (Exceptional Records/Ranking)
A year after their March 2011 sell out tour, live 7 piece dubstep band Submotion Orchestra return to Exeter. When the arts council commissioned a live dubstep piece in York Minster (cathedral), a group of Leeds music scene... luminaries created the Submotion Orchestra. All trained jazz and classical musicians, their influences include jazz, dub, funk, soul and drum & bass. They've been compared to Massive Attack and Cinematic Orchestra, and have had full support from the likes of Giles Peterson and countless other Radio 1 djs.
After the success of their highly acclaimed debut album "Finest Hour", last month they released a remix album, featuring reworks from Goth Trad, Jack Sparrow, Phaeleh, Synkro, Planas and more.
After selling out the Cavern for us last year, we're moving up to a larger venue this year, putting on our first night in Timepiece's main room.

PLANAS LIVE (Ranking/Exceptional/Immerse)
Leeds based producer and Ranking Records boss, Planas has been producing since 2006, often collaborating with fellow label mates, Ruckspin, Quantum Soul and Quark, but also with Foreign Beggars and Virus Syndicate (on "Nature Of It") amongst others.
His tunes have gained DJ support from Giles Peterson, Mary Anne Hobbs, Mr Scruff, Brookes Brothers, Ramadanman, Nonames (Foreign Beggars), and more, many of whom have commented on his stunning use of live instruments over samples in tracks such as Miserere and Heart Murmur. His remix of Submo's "Finest Hour" is at 150,000 youtube views and counting.
His heavy, hard grooving and soulful music draws largely from dubstep, dub and hiphop.
Planas has taken his studio productions into the live setting with his new 4 piece "Planas Live" project. Their set is based around tracks from their debut album, "The Long Game" (forthcoming on Exceptional Records).

Goojah (Artz of War/Sequence)
One of Kernow's finest musical exports and all round good egg, Goojah returns to play for us. Like a fine wine, his productions have matured and mellowed over the years, moving from the filthier end of the biz towards an altogether groovier, more soulful sound. His productions consistently sound fresh and on point. His soundcloud is aptly split into Nice Things, Free Things and Horrible things. Well worth a listen...

Marvin Vital (Deep End)
Straight outta Collumpton! Up and coming dj and producer and latest addition to the Deep End gang, Marvin's going to be drawing for a range of bass music from 130-160 bpm, including many of his own productions. He's making some really fresh juke tracks at the minute. Check him oooot!
